When our cat jumped out of my vehicle more than 3 miles from our home, I didn’t know what to do. Of course, we put up flyers and talked to the neighbors in the area, looked for our cat every day and night for 3 weeks. We were fortunate to learn that Carmen and Kenny and their team of dogs were coming up from Virginia  and would be in the CT area in a few days. I was concerned that too much time had already passed, it had been extremely rainy, and temperatures were dropping outside. Carmen and Kenny did their research before arriving on site, and were extremely knowledgeable about displaced cat behavior, which was particular to our situation, and of course have a much more broader knowledge of all lost pet situations and behavior. They also told us exactly what to do, and what not to do, regarding maintaining the integrity of scent trails and collecting scent items to be used in the search. Although friendly and cordial, this team was all business. They plied me for information I had accumulated over the past few weeks, picking out that which was relevant and (graciously) discounting that which was not. The dogs were just as good. It was immediately evident that the dogs were extremely well trained. They did what their handlers wanted them to do… track and respond. The search was very methodical, yet the strategy was fluid and reactionary toward what the dogs were responding to. Rose would pick up areas of scent and Trixie could follow weeks old paths even on asphalt that had been washed with rain for days at a time. They got us to an area that wasn’t obviously connected to the point of initial loss, and thus hadn’t been thoroughly searched previously. It turned out to be pay dirt. We interviewed residents who recalled seeing our cat or had her captured on security cameras. I had been looking in all the wrong places, the dogs put us in the right place, and I was able to set up trail cams and monitor the movements of my cat. Kenny explained to me that a displaced cat is likely to go to two or more places they feel secure and travel between them from time to time, and usually only in the dark. This is exactly what the trail cam footage revealed to me. I now knew she was in that area, and needed to find where she was holed up at. Eventually I came across the shed-like structure she was hiding in, and although she took off running once discovered, we found her in a nearby garage one day shy of four weeks missing. It was an amazing experience working with Carmen and Kenny and the dogs Rose and Trixie. I don’t know that I ever would have found our Kit without their help, as each hour out in the predator laden area was a risk to my pets’ safety. I highly recommend to anyone searching for a lost pet to call this team, and don’t wait to do it. They get the results and it’s no BS!

I’ve worked with Carmen Brothers on at least 25 cases over the course of 1 year. She is knowledgeable, professional, and always has a positive attitude, even in situations where the odds are overwhelming. She makes herself available for her clients and has a faster response time than anyone in the industry. We worked together on one case that lasted 6 months and resulted in a successful recovery. I can think of no other pet recovery professional who has the kind of resolve it took to bring that pup home!  -

Our experience with Carmen and K9 Magic was really wonderful. Carmen met with us to go over all the important details, including providing useful information on “lost” posters, as well as tips on trapping.  During the track, Carmen and Magic were so in sync; they know each other so well and are such a great team! Magic is really cool, too, she’s very good at her job!  We spent hours (HOURS in the hot and humid July heat!) tracking our dog and were able to pick up scent in multiple locations.  Carmen does not give up easily!  Thanks to Carmen and Magic, we knew the direction our dog travelled and were able to canvas the correct areas and ultimately got our dog back!

“Working with Carmen was fascinating in that she has her strategic “work mode” but also a very compassionate “people” mode. She helped keep me calm all while educating me on how we could bring my dog home. I don’t know what I would have done if it wasn’t for the help of Carmen & Magic coming in to save the day. “

“Last May, my wife and I got into a terrible accident, and one of our dogs, Indie, went missing. Confused and worried, we did not know where to turn. Someone had recommended a tracker as soon as possible since time is of the essence. We received several recommendations and called them immediately—no response.

Carmen heard about our accident and quick to offered help. The next day, she and Magic drove two hours to initiate the search. Carmen and Magic worked tirelessly in tick-infested woods to help find our Indie.

Unfortunately, despite their commendable efforts, Indie was hit by a State Trooper, and her body was never recovered. Carmen went above and beyond and refunded our fee—a gesture of honesty and compassion rare to witness among dog professionals.

Carmen is competent, honest, kind, compassionate, and, most of all, an incredible tracker. Today, we are blessed and proud to call Carmen our friend—a testament to how stellar Carmen is as a person.” - Quy and Anh

Carmen Brothers was a dream... I thought I knew so much about dogs, especially my own, but I have no doubt we wouldn't have gotten my little pooch back without Carmen and Magic. They knew exactly what to do and stayed calm throughout. My dog, sixteen years old, was out in the woods in the middle of winter. I can't recommend Carmen and Magic enough. They were magnificent!

In today’s world you will not find many people that can say they love what they do. While most of the world is in turmoil and conflict you can bet

that Carmen is somehow finding a positive ray to dwell on.

The professionalism that Carmen displays in every face to face meeting with people she meets along the way is an example of what the world so

desperately needs right now.  You find a woman that creates a welcoming atmosphere that even the most difficult people have a hard time avoiding.

I will always remember while talking to Carmen regarding a track the following day I said, “I wish you luck tomorrow in your track and Carmen

replied, “ I don’t need luck I have Magic”.   What a beautiful  way to recognize a gift.  Carmen’s selfless personality resonates in everything she does.

I have had the unique opportunity to accompany Carmen and Magic on several tracks in Virginia and North Carolina and each time I learn something

new. As a volunteer with the local Lost and Found group in the Hampton Roads area, Carmen shares her knowledge and expertise willingly.

I am grateful that Lexi being lost in First Landing State Park enabled me to meet a woman that I will be friends with for the rest of my life ( as long as I

can keep up with her while she is on a track).

 The story of #honeytrap2020

The end of 2019 was a rough one as we had to say goodbye to our sweet dog Riley. As a family of five with 3 kids, it was devastating to have to say goodbye to our dog that we loved so much and had been with us for all of our “firsts”. 2020 started and we knew that eventually we would bring another dog into our family, we just didn’t know when....until one day in February, we checked the site of our local shelter and saw Honey. On paper, it looked like she would be the perfect fit, so my husband and I made an appointment to visit her. I fell in love with her at first sight and within a few days, she was ours. February 11th was the day we officially adopted our sweet Honey. Life was great. We all adored her. February 29th, it all seemed like it would be lost. We knew very little about her background, but assumed that she had been mistreated by someone she thought she could trust by the way she acted. She never showed any signs of aggression, but was very shy and skittish. I was the one that she seemed to trust the most and she was pretty much my shadow. On February 29th, I attended a bridal shower of a good friend of mine, and while I was gone, Honey bolted out the door. My family believes that she went looking for me. I was so heartbroken. My sister in law jumped quickly into action making Lost Dog fliers and driving me around to put them up everywhere. I did everything I could think of right away, but not really knowing Honey and her being so new to the area and to us, I was very concerned she wouldn’t come back. My neighbor had mentioned to me that there were professional trackers that could come out and track a dog. I had never heard of that, so immediately started researching, and called a few local trackers. Carmen was the first and only one to call me back, and just from talking with her on the phone, I knew this would be our very best bet at getting Honey home. We scheduled a time for Carmen and Magic to come out, and I was a wreck. It felt like an eternity (it wasn’t...it was maybe a day). She made it very clear that we likely wouldn’t walk up on Honey, and that this walk about was really to just figure out the loop that Honey has been traveling. So, off we went following Magic. She took us on a decent sized loop around our neighborhood, and as we were closing the loop in the woods, I could see our house...and then I saw Honey! I couldn’t believe it! We then tried to lure Honey towards us by playing with Magic, but that didn’t work. It was worth a try, but Honey was just too nervous and scared. So, we looked at the map. Carmen told me exactly what to buy for the feeding stations and trap site, exactly where to set up the feeding stations and the trap site, and how often I needed to check them and replenish them. We soon discovered the first trap set was too small. We set a larger trap, but she still wouldn’t go in. We were seeing her every night on the trail cams, so that was great! I breathed a huge sigh of relief every time I saw that she had been by the trap. Finally, I got a message from a trapper saying she could set up a Missy Trap to get Honey. I asked Carmen if this person was the real deal, or if it was just someone trying to take advantage of my situation. Carmen said she was the real deal, so we scheduled her to come and bring the Missy Trap. It was huge! I learned so much setting it up and getting it ready. Honey was caught that night...6 days after bolting out the front door, Honey was caught and brought successfully back into the house. I have never been so grateful or happy in my life. I cannot look at Honey to this day without thinking of Carmen and Magic and everyone else that helped us bring her home. I am grateful every single day for Carmen and Magic. If you have a missing pet or you know someone who does, call Carmen! I cannot tell you how amazing working with her was. -

Formerly Lost Dog Chad — Stephens City, VA — Professional Pet Trackers

We are so thankful to Magic, Trix and Carmen for all their help with our baby Chad. Carmen started communicating with us immediately when we reached out. She had suggestions on signs, where to put them, how to make them and what to do at home to try to get him come home. She was so nice and supportive from start to finish. She quickly responded to our questions and concerns. When she came down to track Chad, she was so dedicated to finding him. We went through woods, mud, knocked on houses and she was not taking no for an answer. Magic and Trix did such an excellent job of helping us track scents. They are so smart and good at what they do. They lead us to areas he was and then showed us where he was not. Seeing them play with their balls because they did such a good job made me so happy. After 10 days, we found baby Chad near the James River and he is safely home. We truly could not have asked Carmen or her babies to be more helpful, dedicated or nice in finding Chad. We are forever thankful to all of you. THANK YOU!!!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

I don’t think there is any way we can thank Carmen and her K9s Trix and Magic enough for their help in bringing Niko home after more than a month. His absence was felt every day. I am not exaggerating when I say that without her tracking expertise and advice we wouldn’t have had a clue where to look. I think we found him just in the nick of time. Niko is finally home where he belongs

Carmen is amazing!! When she came down to help us in the search for my daughters dog, it poured buckets the entire day. She and Magic soldiered through with us & were still able to give us important info & more than anything, she gave us HOPE❤ Where Harley went missing was a very busy traffic interchange area. She told us how to make posters that stand out, & we put out 100s of them. After 9 days, a woman spotted Harley & followed her in her car. Harley went into the woods, she called my daughter, and we were happily able to bring her home. I cannot say enough about Carmen & Magic... ❤

Our experience with Man’s Best Friend

Coco escaped and disappeared last Monday. Coco’s daredevil and nosey personality always gets him into trouble and we live between two busy roads. Also the resident red tailed hawks, and occasional eagles who were a concern..

We had no success trying all of the conventional things to lure him back. Wildlife and neighborhood cats visited us, eating the food we had left out, and leaving behind their spoor but no Coco. It was time for something more dramatic.

Through some targeted networking we found out that lost pets can be tracked without technology. The most basic of tools…a dog’s nose!

Carmen Brothers came highly recommended and has even been featured in a National Geographic special. Check out “Finding Hope” https://www.nationalgeographic.com/tv/shows/trackers

When we contacted Carmen, she had many questions for us, so it was obvious she knew her stuff. Although this was not an inexpensive option for us due to the long distance travel costs, given our situation we had few others. We contracted with Professional Pet Trackers with hope that Coco would be found quickly before worst case scenario.

We were told at the get go it was unlikely Coco would be found immediately. The purpose of the search was to document where we had been, and had returned to more than once so that we had an idea of where to concentrate our efforts. Once we had the coordinates we would then put flyers all around and know where to set the traps if necessary. He could have been anywhere.

Carmen arrived with three tracking dogs and proceeded to ask even more questions and to acquire scent from areas Coco had been in exclusively. Important the dogs don’t get multiple scents as it causes confusion and a false scent trail..

Our crew were Trixie (Rat Terrier), Rose (Germans Shepherd) and Magic (Golden Retriever but in the end Magic wasn’t needed).

Each dog has a different job and Trix was the first at bat and given the scent. To my astonishment Trixie headed straight to the exact spot where Coco had made his escape….and with nothing other than the scent. What followed next was amazing.

Trixie lead us on a circular path, doubling back and sniffing under decks, stairs, bushes, storage sheds, ditches, trees … etc. Her track documented on a map. Rose then took over the search to do her part and was duly documented on the map. The outcome was as many have suggested, Coco hadn’t gone far, but was going to be difficult to find because there are so many homes with porches, decks and outbuildings.

With the scent trail provided by the dogs, I spent all day Saturday going house to house, leaving flyers and cat food, treats etc. The plan was to also leave video cameras in the two, locations where he had made multiple visits.

Then one of the neighbors within our mapped area saw, and photographed a cat she thought might be Coco. She called our HOA President who forwarded the image to me…it was unmistakably Coco….with his funny face. The kind neighbor tried to catch him but he ran off, just before we arrived. Of course. It’s Coco after all.

Given the direction he had gone, we quietly searched and softly called him, bearing a dish of stinky salmon. We would never have found him if we hadn’t known he was there.

He just appeared out of nowhere, and Jeffrey spotted him first. I called to him and he slowly walked straight to me, but more than likely to the plate of salmon… we will never know! I gently picked him up and took him to his cat carrier in the car. He had lost a lot of weight and was dirty, but was none the less for wear for his adventure.

So, was it worth the cost? IT WAS WORTH EVERY PENNY.

I have never seen anything like this before within a developed and built up area…. it was real life. It’s easy to forget that nature has its own solutions. We would have called in Carmen and her team again had we not found Coco. Something to seriously consider when the odds are against you, and the stakes are high.

Now that Clementine is back safely,  i want to recommend someone who is incredible - Carmen Brothers and Professional Pet Trackers.

When Clemmie took off at Anthony Wayne Stste Park, me and my BFF Xanthe Elbrickwere absolutely befuddled as to where she could have gone.

We called, retraced our steps, called the police (who BTW, were so nice and stayed with us for over an hour and a half looking for Clemmie.)

Formerly Lost Dog Clementine — Stephens City, VA — Professional Pet Trackers

Then i reached out to Carmen, who was on another job but she took the time to remind me of crucial steps i needed to take: 1) don’t walk around the area anymore so my scent gets scattered, 2) quit calling for her unless i was calm (which i wasn’t) and 3) get to a store and buy a portable grill, bacon and liquid smoke.

What?!?!?  Carmen wanted to area permeating with the smell of bacon that a dog loves and that she would come to.  So Xanthe set off to get supplies and i stayed where i was to be there in case she came back.

Xanthe returned and after some very hilarious setting of the grill, we started to cook the bacon.  The smell was everywhere and keep in mind we were right next to BEAR MOUNTAIN!

I ended up cooking all the bacon and was about to really start to cry hard, and Xanthe yells, “Clementine!”  She came back to the smell of the bacon.

Here’s my point to the story.  There is no one better on this planet at finding your pet than Carmen Brothers.  Please follow her at Professional Pet Tracking and if you should ever need her services, DM me or go to her Facebook page.  No one knows more about finding your beloved fur babies than this gorgeous human.
